The Young Latino
Artists Exhibition is an annual exhibit of artists under
thirty-five years of age. Splitting
Aguas: The 8th Annual Young Latino Artists Exhibition seeks
to reveal new streams of Latino art that may seem divergent yet converge
back to reshape and redefine what Latino art is today.
The exhibition includes photography, digital art, print, sound, paintings,
drawings, installation, performance and sculpture. Just like the Río
Bravo/Grande flows, these 11 artists—Lisa
Alvarado, Pablo Rojas Duarte, Teresa Cisneros, Miguel Aragón,
John Lerma, Miguel Escobedo, Elizabeth and Maurice Treviño, Jorge
Javier López, Eduardo X. García, and Samuel De La Rosa—follow
their own course.
Splitting Aguas is influenced
by the cultures at either bank, sometimes one side, sometimes the other,
often both. It has shaped and has been shaped by its environment—be
it physical, geopolitical, or social.
The exhibit is curated by Aldo Valdés
Böhm and Arturo Palacios.
Guided tours of the exhibition will be available for the community and
school groups. To schedule a group tour, please call Herlinda Zamora,
Museum Educator at 512/480-9373 x24.

“Water is an essential
and inherently adaptable liquid. It has shaped and been shaped
by its environment, be it physical, geopolitical, or social.
Splitting Aguas, alludes to the fluid properties
and characteristics
of water as represented in
the works of these artists.”
